Not to de-rail the thread any further, but gameplay-wise, I wanted to play the first time through with vanilla, so I get the hang of things. Many of them are pure gold, especially if you've played JA1 and JA:DG,Īs for JA, there's a mightily beautiful mod/conversion/whatever called JA 1.13, which allows a better resolution and externalizes (is there such a word?) all data, so you can modify almost anything, from weapons to enemy strenght and numbers. Each merc has a different thing to say when they see Mike. Oh and when you find Mike, reload and play that part again with all your mers. You either surrender or run as fast as you can. If the enemy is suggesting for you to surrender, they mean business. And never fall for the "Let's make a Last Stand!"-ruse. Luckily there's plenty of urban/forested/jungle-sectors where snipers don't rule! Oh and don't forget smoke grenades! Using a smokescreen at the right place can save your team from annihilation. Can't remember if this works in vanilla, haven't played it in a loooong time, but it's pretty imba in 1.13. Headshots from long range, always a pleasure.
Make them move from cover to cover so as not to cause too much harm upon them and when they spot an enemy, unleash Raven. Raven for example ain't too expensive, give her a good sniper rifle (or any proper rifle with a scope), park her in a good spot and then use the rest of your team as flushers. Then with a good marksman you can rule all the open areas. Because of lack of equipment at start (usually) and the engine-limitations on range, that's not typically a valid tactic until you proceed to the mid-game atleast. Haha In real firefight I'd use my best sharpshooter as the "bait" since he would have many opportunities to snipe the enemy and would have the highest probability to hit them from even an extended range. Oh, right, I forgot we had someone who had actually, y'know, done the whole war thing.
